The Witching Hour

Image
The witching hour is upon us. Halloween typically is seen as a fun time for children to go out in costumes, getting candy from door to door. It's a time of black cats,  pumpkins , witches, and skeletons.  A time to send your children out for fun.  Is it  really? Lets look at the origin of the holiday. "In those early days in England, there was another kind of witchcraft known as Druidism. The Druids were called “men of the oaks” and were a strange clan of men who dressed in white robes. The Druids worshipped Cernnunos , the “horned hunter of the night.“ Halloween was sacred to the Druids because their sun-god receded to the underworld on October 31st, which is why darkness increased and light decreased according to their reckoning. As darkness set in on October 31st, the clan of Druids would put on their white robes and hoods. They would carry sickles and Celtic crosses as they began a torchlight procession. At the beginning of the procession, a male slave was killed and drag

Think "COOL"

Image
As we go through these hot and humid days of summer....perhaps this picture will help! This was sent to me by my sister in law. Today as I drive to work, in my "unairconditioned" car....I will think of this picture! Of course, packing myself in ice might help too!

In Loving Memory To Bear

Image
This is my friends dog, who just recently passed on. She said he was such a loving companion, whom she will greatly miss. I believe with all my heart, we will see our little buddies again in Heaven. I bet they will be one of the first to greet us! We will see you again Bear!

A Letter From Our Adopted Daughter..Just Like Daddy!

We were up at 2 A.M to give the kids (our dogs) medicine. We ran out of Hot Dogs. So we tried rolling them up in a little bread. That didn't work. So Dave came up with the bright idea to put their pills in Marshmallows. The next thing I know he has the burner on and he is roasting Marshmallows over my stove to give to the dogs. The kids took their medication. So I guess that's what counts! I guess they are right. You do marry a man just like your Dad, which really isn't a bad thing in this case!

Comfort Zones

Image
What is a comfort zone exactly? To me it is a place where we can relax and feel safe. No worries, no problems, no confrontations, just total peace and harmony awaits us there.  Isn't that a wonderful place to be? It's my most favorite place! From the looks of this  chipmonk  in this picture,  he's in his comfort zone too! How happy and serene he looks! Many years ago, I heard a preacher preach on this very thing..."COMFORT ZONES". He said that if we are in a comfort zone, we're in a place where we can't grow in the Lord. Growth comes from going through circumstances that are down right painful. They are filled with people who accuse us, attack us, and if they could...leave us for dead.  Usually these people are like this because they see us as a threat. A threat only because they instinctively know that we would never condone their actions against other people. Those who do things maliciously to others, always are very good at covering up their tracks and

Rick's New Book On Betsy Reed

Image
My nephew just wrote a book about Betsy Reed. Betsy Reed was the first woman ever executed in Illinois. Supposedly she laced her husband's tea with arsenic. The date was 1845, and 20 thousand people came to Lawrenceville , IL . to witness her hanging. To find out more about this woman, go to http://www.betseyreed.com/. There you will be told how to purchase this special book, by this very talented writer! Not that I'm partial or anything:)

Sweet Darkness, But Then There Was Light

Image
The wound had healed, but left scars. The pain within grew and spread. Like a cancer, it tore at my mind, soul, and flesh. Sometimes in the night hours I cried. No one cared or heard. If only the memories and feelings could be erased. Sweet darkness hears my cry. He is ready to erase my existence. He calls me to him, offering deep sleep, and woos me like a lover. I lay there waiting, soon the pain and tears will be gone forever. Darkness begins to prevail over the light. He was waiting for my complete submission. He tells me that it is too late to turn back. The light slowly fades. My mind and spirit begin drifting. Sweet darkness is going to take away the pain. Soon all light is gone, and I'm floating in total darkness. To my horror, the only feeling left is the pain. I cling to it, for it is the only part of me that remains. The darkness has deceived me! I hear a cry deep within, FORGIVE ME GOD. Instantly sleep overtakes me. Mind, body, and soul slumbers deeply. My past flashes b

There are a lot of " puppy mills" that breed pedigree dogs, in unsavory conditions. Sometimes "pet shops" buy from these places. They get them fairly reasonable. While the puppies are quickly ushered out to be with loving families, the mother and father of these cute little puppies are imprisoned in filthy conditions, under the uncaring watch of people....who only see them as a quick profit. Some of which, do not even feed the dogs properly enough to sustain them. My adopted daughter has a friend, who rescued a dog from such a place.  She was able to enrich his life with love and  care for a short time.....something he had never had before in his whole life.  Because of this caring woman and her family, his last days  were filled with love.   If you would like to read more about this amazing family and their dog, please click on the site below. What a warm felt tribute, to Spike. There is a link to the newspaper article concerning the arrest of the people that

Look Up

Image
Looks like my dog is looking up at something here. Not sure what he had in his sites. Sometimes in life, when things aren't going as well as we would like them, we too have to look up, and just rest and wait. To me the waiting seems almost impossible. That's where we learn "patience", that word that I absolutely hate! :) Never ask God for patience, for He will put you into situations that requiere it! I learned that lesson a long time ago. We all have to go through situations like that, however. It's called "growing in the Lord". This picture here of Zeke, seems serene. That's what we have to do. While going through trials, find a place where you can rest. Then just simply wait on the Lord, and look up. He will finish the work He started.

God Is At The Window

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods, but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As he was walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck. Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head and killed it. He was shocked and grieved! In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile; only to see his sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing. After lunch the next day Grandma said, "Sally, let’s wash the dishes" But Sally said, "Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen." Then she whispered to him, "Remember the duck?" So Johnny did the dishes. Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and Grandma said, "I'm sorry but I need Sally to help make supper." Sally just smiled and said, "Well that's all r

Rose Breasted Grosbeak

Image
I saw one of these birds at my feeder the other day, but didn't know what it was. The next day I found an e-mail from my sister in law, with a picture of this same bird, and the name of it! Are we in sync or what? I love watching the birds, but haven't had much time to do so as of lately. I'm enjoying my new job, working with the handicapped. But it is going to be very difficult at times, because there is a lot to learn. Haven't had much time to post, however, because of the new job. I don't want to give this up, because I do enjoy it. So please bear with me, and check back to see if I have anything new. It may be days or weeks, before I can get back to post. But please don't give up on me! I will try to get back as often as I can. Love you all, and thank you for being patient with me:)

Special Delivery!

Image
Yesterday was my husband's and my anniversary. I have been very sick, with strep throat. So I spent most of the day sleeping. My husband sent me my card, special delivery! Zeke brought me the card, but didn't want to let me have it! I had to chase him down, to get it:)

Homemade Chicken Pot Pie

2 cups cooked chicken 2 cups mixed vegetables, frozen 1 can Cream of Chicken Soup (Mushroom or celery can be used instead) 1/2 stick of butter 1/2 to 3/4 soup can of milk Bake chicken and tear into pieces. I usually just bake some chicken parts and take out the bones and take off the skin. Then I tear up the meat. Put 2 cups of mixed vegetables into 3qt. pan with 1/2 stick of butter. I use a baking pan about 8X11, and it works just fine. Heat frozen vegetables with the butter for 2 to 3 minutes in microwave on high. They do not need to be totally unfrozen when finished, just slightly unthawed. Remove pan from Microwave. In a separate bowl, mix together soup and milk. Then pour this into the vegetables in the pan. Mix well. Now spread out the chicken evenly over the soup and vegetables. Now to make the crust! 1-1/2 cups of Bisquick (I used all purpose Jiffy Mix) and 1-1/2 cups milk. Get a bowl and put the Bisquick in it. Then slowly add the milk. You may not use all of the 1-1/2 cups of

Life Is Miraculous

Image
In a previous story, you will see eggs in a nest. KRK was able to get a picture of the new baby birds that hatched from those eggs! Life is so precious! Every creature and person has worth, and a reason for being here. I know this, as most of you do. There are those that take life for granted, and devalue human existence. People who use and abuse others. These people are so wrapped up in themselves, they believe that only they have purpose. This type of person has many issues, that need to be dealt with by a mental health counselor. The sad part, they never go to a counselor, because they believe only they are right. They make a lot out of nothing, build a case, and act out. What do we do, when we have to deal with people like this? Very good question, one that I continue to ask myself, especially as of recently. I believe you watch, listen, and ask God to open your mouth only when needed. He will show you what to do, when the time is right. This picture that KRK sent to me, puts li

The Living Water

Image
Amid the dark and dreary colors, is a splash of red! This little cardinal is taking a bath! Thanks to KRK , we have another beautiful picture! This picture reminds me of many things. I sometimes get inspired by pictures, or things that I see. The water represents THE LIVING WORD. We too get dirty, just like this little bird. It's hard not to, in this world that we live in. I'm not talking about physically dirty, but spiritually dirty. If we could see everything in the spiritual realm, we would probably pull up the covers and stay in bed. But there are also wonderful things in the spiritual realm...like God's Holy Angels, who are here to serve us. Then of course the most important person on earth, is the Holy Spirit. Jesus sent Him, when He ascended back up to heaven after His resurrection. After Jesus was resurrected after His death on the cross, He was on the earth quite awhile before going back to His Father. He talked to the disciples, and taught them more during this t

God Cares

Image
It says in the Bible that God knows EVEN when a sparrow falls to the ground, and cares. How much more will He care for us? Much more. Luke 12:6-7 goes on to say, "Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not ONE of them is forgotten of God. Indeed the very hairs of your head are numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows." This is a direct quote from Jesus. So when things get hectic, and life seems to be sucking you dry, remember the sparrows. God cares for them, He will certainly care for you. Sometimes that may be your DAILY NEEDS...ON A DAY BY DAY BASIS. It's hard for some of us to do that. We like to know that this or that is taken care of, way down the road. But sometimes, we are put into situations, where we can't depend on our own means. That's where faith comes in. We don't exercise that faith, until it's all we have left. Maybe that's why, we have to go through trials at times. To remember, that God cares for

Which Color Do You Like?

Who's Going To Be Sweet 16?

Image
Wanted to wish my oldest grand daughter a Happy Birthday! She will be 16 on the 20 Th ! She is so looking forward to getting her drivers license, but won't be able to get it on her birthday, because that is also the day she plays in the state tennis tournament. Then if she or her boyfriend win in that tournament, they may not be able to go to prom, the next day. She also told me that this whole week, she has nothing but tests in school. So remember her in your prayers:) I know this will be a wonderful day for you honey, even with all the activities going on. We're so proud of you. Grandpa and I wish you a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Update

Thank you all for your prayers. As you may already know, I did get the job working with the mentally handicapped. Thanks again:)

The Bird House

Image
Let me tell you the story about this little bird house. My Mom had a stroke five years ago, or so. She is angry about having had the stroke, and some of her anger has been towards God. She bought this bird house from a neighbor one day. She then asked me to hang it up for her outside. Me being of rather short stature, and not having a ladder....the bird house got hung on the highest branch I could reach! Maybe just 6 feet off the ground:) (If that!) Mom kept asking me if a bird had built a nest in it yet. I kept checking, and none had. I told her that I doubted that one would, since it was so low to the ground. Then one day when I was coming into Mom's, I saw a bird peeking it's little head out of the house! Later I checked, and nesting material was also hanging out of the hole. We had a renter! I told Mom about it, and she seemed very happy. Then she told me why she had been so curious as to whether a bird had built in the house. She told God, that if He were real....to send a
